AIKEN, SC. – The Barry University Volleyball team is off to a fast start in 2018, winning both matches during day one of the USC Aiken Season-Opening Tournament in straight sets. Match one in the Convocation Center on the campus of USC-Aiken was against Southern Wesleyan University, where the Bucs came out on top, 25-12, 25-13, 25-22. In the second match, Barry faced Johnson C. Smith University and defeated the Golden Bulls 25-9, 25-16, 25-11. The Bucs' hitting percentage was over .300 in both matches.

SUMMARY:
Game one
- 1st set | The Buccaneers were led by freshman Bianca Paşca, who recorded 15 of her 28 assists during the first set. Another eye-catching number is comparing both team's attack percentages. Barry's hitting percentage was .353 (16-4-34) compared to the Warriors' -.091 (3-6-33).
- 2nd set | In the second set, the Bucs started to put pressure on the Warriors with their serve game. Barry recorded four aces, two of which were by junior, Kristina Filimonova. She also chipped in two kills and two blocks.
- 3rd set | In the third set, the Warriors picked up the pace, improving their hitting percentage by .180. Brittany Reynolds led the Bucs with five kills and a .400 hitting percentage. Reynolds and Tierney Ward combined for half of the Bucs' attacks (17/34) in the set. Maegen Cuesta recorded four assists.
Game two
- 1st set | The Buccaneers dominated the set, never allowing the Golden Bulls to serve twice. The Bucs were nine-for-nine on sideout opportunities. Add on the fact that Barry compiled a hitting percentage of .591, with only one attacking error.
- 2nd set | True freshman, Tierney Ward led Barry with six kills and a .500 hitting percentage. Audren Rose continued to show her defensive ability, leading the Bucs with six of her 15 digs.
- 3rd set | Gabriela Jansen was the most aggressive hitter in the final set against the Golden Bulls, with 14 total attacks. With five resulting in kills. Maegen Cuesta came in and did a nice job setting up her teammates with seven assists.
NOTEWORTHY:.
- Barry had had eight aces, to Johnson C. Smith's one.
- Barry's hitting percentage against Johnson C. Smith was .345 to their -.051.
- Bianca Pasca had 48 assists on the day, with only one serving error.
- Rose recorded 42 percent of the Bucs' digs on the day (38/90).
- The Bucs were very efficient on the attack during both games today, hitting .322.

Barry continues play at the USC Aiken Season-Opening Tournament tomorrow with two more matches. First at 10am vs. Lander University and then the final match against the host USC-Aiken at 1:30pm .
