Baseball Nips Sailfish In Non-Conference Tilt

Bucs knock out PBA 5-1

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers knocked off the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish 5-1 on Tuesday night at Fienbloom Field in a non-conference matchup.

  • B1: Andrew Rapoza doubled to lead off the inning and scored on a single by Ryan Baldwin. | Barry 1, PBA 0
  • T3: The Sailfish tied it up in the third. Jake Summey was hit by a pitch and scored one out later on a single by Danny Tufariello. | Barry 1, PBA 1
  • B3: The Bucs took the lead for good on a pair of long balls. Arrison Perez hit a lead off homer down the left field line. Jonathan Quintana blasted a two-run shot, scoring Rapoza ahead of him. | Barry 4, PBA 1
  • B5: Quintana doubled to lead off the inning and scored on a sacrifice fly by Paul Salata. | Barry 5, PBA 1

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Anthony Gutierrez (2-0) picked up the win for the Bucs in the split game, as Barry used eight pitchers. Gutierrez worked three innings, allowing a run on two hits and striking out three.
  • The Bucs bullpen went the final six innings, allowing just two hits and a walk and striking out six. Blaine Duncan tossed the ninth, allowing one hit and striking out the side.
  • Orsen Josephina (1-3) took the loss for PBA. He allowed four runs on six hits and three walks in three innings. 
  • Rapoza was 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
  • Quintana was 2-for-3 with a walk, a homer, a double, two runs and two RBI. His homer was the 10th of the season.
  • The homer by Perez was his fourth, the most among the Buccaneer freshmen this season.

ON THE HORIZON:

The Bucs travel to West Palm Beach, Fla., to take on the PBA Sailfish in a three-game conference series on April 6 and 7.
