Baseball Falls To Sailfish In Conference Series Opener

Bucs post one unearned run

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers fell 2-1 to the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish on Friday night at Rubin Park in the opener of their Sunshine State Conference series.

SUMMARY:
Game 1

  • B1: Danny Tufariello ripped a two-out solo homer. | PBA 1, Barry 0
  • T6: Justin Lamazares reached on an error by shortstop Carlos Lara and scored on another Lara error to tie the game. | Barry 1, PBA 1
  • B7: Eddie Vicinanza delivered a two-out RBI single to score Connor Rowland. | PBA 2, Barry 1
  • B9: After Richie Sobalvarro drew a lead off walk from PBA starter Mikhail Cazanave, Jonathan Hernandez came in to run. Joey Hennessey relieved Cazenave and retired the next two batters. Garrett Thompson delivered a two-out pinch hit single, but Hernandez was gunned down at the plate by right fielder Jake Summey to end the game.

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Cazenave (8-4) worked eight solid innings, allowing an unearned run on three hits and five walks, while striking out six.  Hennessey worked a one-hit ninth for his second save.
  • Pablo Arevalo (2-5) went 6.1 innings, allowing two runs on five hits. He did not walk a batter and struck out four.

ON THE HORIZON:

The Bucs continue the conference series in West Palm Beach, Fla., against the Sailfish with a doubleheader at noon tomorrow afternoon.
