Women's Tennis Wins Regular Season Finale

Bucs improve to 20-0, await SSC Tournament

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Barry University won its final regular season match Thursday, sweeping Palm Beach Atlantic, 9-0, on Senior Day.

Sonja Larsen and Judith Bohnenkamp played in their final regular season matches at Buccaneer Tennis Center, each coming out victorious as the Buccaneers took care of business. Now the attention shifts to the postseason, where the Bucs will enter the Sunshine State Conference Tournament as the top seed.

 

INSIDE THE MATCHUP

DOUBLES:

  • Thirty ninth-ranked Zuza Maciejewska and Carolin Schmidt rolled to an 8-1 win over Romina Bolagay and Estefani Fernandez at No. 3 pairs.
  • Verena Schmid and Larsen, the No. 3-ranked doubles team in the nation, were 8-3 winners over Yuliia Russu and Johanna Kern at the top position.
  • Julie Razafindranaly and Hannah Seizer posted an 8-4 victory over Laura Andersen and Taylor Conti at No. 2.

SINGLES:

  • Seizer beat 75th-ranked Bella Mermersky, 6-1, 6-4, at No. 1.
  • Schmid, who is 16th in the nation, defeated Vanessa Buchbinder, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 2.
  • Top-ranked Larsen breezed to a 6-2, 6-0 win over Conti at No. 3.
  • At No. 4, Schmidt clinched beat Michaela Mignemi, 6-0, 6-1. 
  • Razafindranaly ran off a 6-2, 6-0 win over Bolagay at No. 5.
  • Bohnenkamp beat Nicole Reich, 6-1, 6-2, in another straight sets victory.

NOTEWORTHY:

  • The Bucs went 9-0 at home this year in the regular season.
  • Barry swept doubles for the second time in the last four matches and 16th time this season.
  • Bohnenkamp won her second straight match and fourth in her past five. She improved to 7-3 at the No. 6 position.
  • Larsen secured her team-leading 18th singles victory. She and Razafindranaly both have 18 wins.
  • Razafindranaly and Seizer won their team-best 19th doubles match.
  • Larsen moved within one singles victory of 80 in her four-year career. She is the school's all-time leader.


ON THE HORIZON:

Barry will compete in the SSC Tournament quarterfinals Thursday in Bradenton, Fla.
