Softball Shuts The Door On Urbana And Findlay

Bucs initiate the mercy rule on both teams

CLERMONT, Fla. -- Barry's softball team dominated day two of the Spring Games, triggering the run rule in both games on the day. The Bucs shut out the Blue Knights of Urbana 8-0, and came back to blow away the Oilers from Findlay, 12-2.

SUMMARY:
Game 1

  • B2: Brittany Phillips batted in Barry's first run of the game with an RBI single to center field. Lynsey Duncan stole third, then scored on a throwing error on behalf of the Blue Knights. Barry 2 | Urbana 0
  • B3: Geneva Santos scored Peyton Rawls with a sacrifice fly to left field, increasing Barry's lead to three runs. Barry 3 | Urbana 0
  • B5: The Buccaneers added another four runs in the fifth. Anieliese Palmeiro had an RBI-triple, and Kristina Osorio and Sam Busekrus each had RBI singles. Barry 7 | Urbana 0
  • B6: Palmeiro grabbed her second hit in the game, scoring Gallagher to initiate the run rule and finish the Blue Knights in six innings. Barry 8 | Urbana 0

Game 2

  • T1: Barry started the game with three quick runs in the first. Palmeiro brought in Gallagher with an infield RBI-single. Palmiero was brought in moments later to score the Bucs' second run, thanks to a sacrifice fly to right field by Osorio. Jordan Cooke doubled to center field to score in the final run of the inning.   • T2: Taylor Checkley's speed came into play in the second inning as she stole home to score Barry's fourth run of the game. Barry 4 | Findlay 0
  • T3: Cooke put up her second double of the game, bringing in another two runs for the Bucs. Barry 6 | Findlay 0
  • B3: Findlay cut the Bucs' lead to four runs with two of their own in the third. Rebecca Harvey homered to center field, and Allison Brunner had an RBI-double to right field. Barry 6 | Findlay 2
  • T5: Barry put up six more runs in the fifth to trigger the second mercy rule of the day. Santos knocked out her first collegiate home run during the six-run stretch. Barry 12 | Findlay 2

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Geneva Santos (4-7) gave up just four hits to pick up the win game one on the day.
  • Carly Allen (1-6) was dealt the loss for the Blue Knights, allowing two hits and three runs to the Bucs.
  • Christie Falcon (5-5) allowed just four hits and two runs to grab Barry's second win of the day, third at the Spring Games so far.
  • Megan Fisher (0-3) took the loss in game two for Findlay after giving up seven hits and 12 runs.

ON THE HORIZON:

The Barry Buccaneers are off Thursday and will continue play in the Spring Games on Friday at 2 and 7 p.m.
