Softball Dominates Final Day At CSU Classic

Buccaneers increase win streak to four games

COLUMBUS, Ga. -- Barry's softball team won both games on Sunday to wrap up the Columbus State University Classic, beating the Wolves of Newberry, 6-2, and the Cougars from the host school, 6-3.

Game 1

  • B1: Allison Van Atta singled to left field, scoring two runs to take the lead for the Wolves in game one. Newberry 2 | Barry 0
  • T5: Barry's Peyton Rawls homered in the fifth to tie up the game with a two-run shot over the center field wall. Barry 2 | Newberry 2
  • T6: The Bucs scored four more runs in the sixth to take the lead against the Wolves. Sam Busekrus and Alayna Gallagher each had RBI singles. Barry 6 | Newberry 2

  • B2: JoJo Beyer singled to left field, scoring Calli Star to take the one-run lead in game two. Columbus 1 | Barry 0
  • T5: Madison VonHagel doubled to center field with bases loaded, scoring three RBI for the Bucs. VonHagel later scored the fourth run of the inning after being batted in by Lynsey Duncan. Barry 4 | Columbus 1
  • B5: Keeli Waugh cut Barry's lead to one run for the Cougars, after hitting a two-run home run in the fifth. Barry 4 | Columbus 3
  • T7: Anieliese Palmeiro came back with a home run of her own in the last inning to seal the win for the Bucs, grabbing Barry's second win of the day. Barry 6 | Columbus 3

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Geneva Stantos (3-6) won both games for Barry in the final day of the Classic, giving up just seven hits and four runs on the day.
  • Alyssa Ball (5-3) gave up eight hits and five runs to lose the first game of the day for the Wolves.
  • Darby Demarest (6-3) was dealt the loss for the host Cougars in game two, giving up one hit and three runs.

ON THE HORIZON:

The Buccaneers continue their road trip to The Spring Games taking place in Clermont, FL, with their first pair of games on March 6.
