Baseball Splits With Tritons

Bucs win first game, but drop rubber game and the series

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers split a Sunshine State Conference baseball doubleheader with the Eckerd Tritons at Feinbloom Field on Friday, winning game one 10-4, but dropping the rubber game 7-5.

Game 1

  • T1: Keith Leavitt doubled in Chase Achuff with one out. | Eckerd 1, Barry 0
  • B2: Alexis Monge-Rodriguez delivered a base knock to drive in Ryan Baldwin to tie the game. | Barry 1, Eckerd 1
  • T3: Mitch Calandra scored on a sacrifice fly by Garrett Hiott. | Eckerd 2, Barry 1

  • B4: The Bucs exploded for five runs in the fourth. They loaded the bases with one out and Andrew Rapoza drove in two runs with a double.   • T5: Another error cost the Bucs a pair of unearned runs. Shane LeMaster had an RBI single and the other two runs scored on a ground out and a fly ball. | Eckerd 5, Barry 1
  • B7: Reuben Pino blasted a three-run homer to get the Bucs back in the game. | Eckerd 5, Barry 4
  • T8: Leavitt hit a lead off homer and Tim Mira scored on a single by Jake Romine as the Tritons scored a pair of crucial insurance runs. | Eckerd 7, Barry 4

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Jonathan Hernandez (2-5) went 6.0 innings in relief to earn the win in game one. He allowed three runs (one earned) on five hits and struck out seven.
  • Nick Alonzo (4-3) took the loss for Eckerd. In 3.1 innings, he allowed eight runs on seven hits and three walks.
  • Robin Allen (3-2) earned the win in game two. He held the Bucs to one run and one hit in the first six innings, before running into trouble in the seventh, walking two and allowing Pino's three-run homer. Jack Iervolino got the last four outs, allowing just one walk and striking out three to earn his first save.
  • Baldwin was 2-for-3 with a homer and four walks in the twin bill. He drove in three and scored three. 
  • Monge-Rodriguez went 4-for-4 in game one with two RBI.

The Bucs host Palm Beach Atlantic in a non-conference matchup Tuesday April 3, at 6 p.m.
