Larsen ties school career singles record

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- On a day where a record was tied, and another shutout was registered, Barry University's women's tennis team was perfect.

NCAA Division II No. 2-ranked Barry swept all nine matches without surrendering a game in a 9-0 win over NAIA Indiana Kokomo Thursday at Buccaneer Tennis Center.

Senior Sonja Larsen tied the school record for career singles victories, and the Bucs recorded their ninth shutout of the season.

DOUBLES:

  • Hanna Seizer and Julie Razafindranaly beat Adri Ward and Anna Boyer, 8-0, at No. 1 doubles.
  • Fourteenth-ranked Verena Schmid and Larsen beat Kelsey Kohlmorgen, 8-0, at No. 2.
  • Zuza Maciejewska and Carolin Schmidt were 8-0 winners over Katie Hart and Kenzie Quinn at the No. 3 position.
  • It marked the 11th time the Bucs swept pairs play this season.

SINGLES:

  • Seizer beat Ward, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 1 singles.
  • Schmidt was a 6-0, 6-0 winner over Boyer at No. 2
  • Schmid beat Abrahamson, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 3
  • Larsen defeated Hart, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 4
  • Maciejewska rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Kohlmorgen at No. 5.
  • Judith Bohnenkamp cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win over Quinn at No. 6.

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Larsen matched Greta Trotman's school record for the most career singles wins. Both now stand atop the Bucs' all-time list with 73. 
  • Larsen is 12-0 this season.
  • Schmid and Schmidt both won singles matches for the fifth time this year without dropping a game.
  • Schmidt improved to 10-0.
  • Schmid bumped her record to 9-0.
  • Maciejewska is now 7-0.
  • Razafindranaly and Seizer are 14-0 in doubles.
  • Larsen and Schmid improved to 13-0.
  • Maciejewska and Schmidt moved to 11-0.

ON THE HORIZON:

Barry will host NAIA No. 23 St. Thomas at 3 p.m. next Thursday.
