Women's Basketball Falls at No. 24 FSC

Bucs return home Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.

LAKELAND, Fla. -- Barry University's women's basketball team dropped its second game this season to league leader Florida Southern, 77-60, Saturday evening. 

The Buccaneers had a two-point lead early, but the 24th-ranked Moccasins used two big runs in the first half to build a lead Barry could not recover from.

SUMMARY:

  • 1Q - Kiara Palmer gave the Buccaneers a 15-14 lead with 3:24 to go. She tied the game twice more in the period, but the Moccasins outscored the Bucs, 7-2, in the final 1:28. Palmer scored six points in the quarter. | FSC 23, Barry 18
  • 2Q - Stephane Granada's layup at the 6:03 mark pulled Barry within two. But the Mocs went on a 14-2 run over the next 4:37 to take a 40-26 lead. The Bucs went scoreless for 3:22 until Barbara Cousiño knocked down a jumper at the 1:07 mark. | FSC 42, Barry 28
  • 3Q - The Mocs widened their lead to 18 just 54 seconds into the quarter. Cousiño sank two free throws with 2:50 left to make it a 14-point game. The Mocs shot 58 percent in the quarter, while the Bucs hit 33 percent of their field goals. | FSC 58, Barry 43 
  • 4Q -  Juhnae Richardson buried a three-pointer with 9:12 left on the clock to trim the gap to 12. But Florida Southern's Camille Giardina scored to put the Mocs up 17 with 5:40 to go. | FSC 77, Barry 60 

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Palmer finished with 25 points on 10 of 14 shooting and nine rebounds. It was the third straight game and seventh time overall she's scored at least 20 points this season.
  • Palmer's 10 field goals matched a season high.
  • Cousiño and Granada each scored 12 points, and Ida Andersson grabbed nine rebounds. It was the fifth straight game Cousiño reached double figures. It was the third time in the last four games Granada had double figures.
  • Florida Southern outscored Barry, 21-7, off turnovers.

ON THE HORIZON:

The Bucs host Embry-Riddle Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. in the final mid-week game at home of the season.
