MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- It was a good day to be a Buccaneer women's tennis player.
Barry University's second-ranked women's tennis team beat Florida Tech, 7-2, Saturday at Buccaneer Tennis Center on a day it was honored for its 2017 NCAA Division II National Championship at the men's basketball game on ESPN3. Head coach Avi Kigel was also honored for being selected as the Professional Tennis Registry's National Coach of the Year.

SUMMARY:
- The Buccaneers kept its sparkling doubles record in tact after sweeping the Panthers in pairs play. Hannah Seizer and Julie Razafindranaly beat Mariana Castaneiras and Erin Egoroff, 8-2, at the No. 1 position. Fourteenth-ranked Sonja Larsen and Verena Schmid defeated Alahna Reto and Caroline Walter, 8-3, at No. 2. Zuza Maciejewska and Carolin Schmidt were 8-1 winners over Dina Dragoljic and Paloma Vela at No. 3.
- No. 1-ranked Larsen and 42nd-ranked Schmid both rolled in singles play as neither dropped a game. Larsen beat Kayla Hergott, 6-0, 6-0, at the No. 2 position. Schmid defeated Maria Chun, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 3.
- Maciejewska defeated Maria Escude, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 4 singles. Razafindranaly beat Egoroff, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 5.
- The Panthers won a pair of third-set super tiebreakers. Reto defeated Seizer, 6-3, 4-6, 10-5, at No. 1. Lauren Stuckey beat Judith Bohnenkamp, 6-2, 1-6, 10-6, at No. 6.
NOTEWORTHY:
- Barry improved to 15-0 in doubles this season.
- The Bucs have not lost at the Nos. 3-5 singles positions this season.
- Schmid and Larsen both picked up their second singles sweeps of the season.
