Men's Soccer Hosts NCAA South Region Opener vs. Spring Hill

It is the first meeting ever between both teams

MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The third-seeded Barry Buccaneer men's soccer team will host the second-seed Spring Hill College on Saturday, November 10th at 7:00 PM, announced by the NCAA DII Selection Show this week. The meeting is the first-ever between both programs.

Barry has qualified for the NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Tournament for the first time since 2011. It is the program's 10th NCAA Division II bid overall, since men's soccer got the very first bid for Barry Athletics back in 1985, just the second year of the program.

Buccaneer forward Flavio Colasanti was named Player of the Year and Offensive Player of the Year by Sunshine State Conference coaches. Barry also claimed the SSC's Freshman of the Year - Francisco Greco. Colasanti, Greco and Marco Sordi earned SSC First Team honors, while Stephen Kosmala was named second team All-SSC.

Spring Hill enters the NCAA Tournament with a 17-1 overall record while riding a 14-game win streak that culminated with a Gulf South Conference Tournament Championship. The crown was clinched with a 3-2 win over the University of West Florida on Sunday, Nov. 4. Spring Hill is in its first year eligible for NCAA Division II postseason and becomes the eighth different Gulf South Conference member to win the men's soccer tournament. Five Spring Hill Badgers received All-Gulf South Conference honors. Alex Lipinski, a junior forward from Krefield, Germany, led the team as Spring Hill's only First Team selection while freshman forward Cyril Giraud of Ardentes, France, was named the GSC Freshman of the Year. Giraud was also named a Second Team All-GSC selection, along with senior midfielder Tidman Schober of Schriesheim, Germany; senior defender Jack LaForge of New Orleans, Louisiana and freshman goalkeeper Alessandro Erdelyi of Turin, Italy.

The winner of the sub-regional will advance to the regional final and NCAA Quarterfinal round Nov. 18-20. The highest remaining seed in the Southeast Region will host.

The semifinals and championship games will take place November 29 and December 2 at Highmark Stadium in Pittsburgh, Pa., as part of the NCAA Division II Fall Sports Festival.
