Men's Hoops Cruises Past Coastal Georgia 92-62

The Buccaneers opened up the game on a 16-2 run and never looked back.

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Buccaneer men's basketball team led from start to finish against Coastal Georgia University on Sunday afternoon inside the Health & Sports Center. Barry (2-0) handled the Mariners 92-62 behind a balanced offensive scoring attack.

WHAT THEY'RE SAYING:

"I was very pleased with [us staying in front] because I told them that I can test their character when we're behind, but sometimes you can challenge their character when you're ahead," Bucs head coach Butch Estes said. "We can't play to the opponent, we have to play to our standard and we're still trying to figure out what that is, because we like to keep it high." Estes and his staff is putting an emphasis on defense with this ball club. Through the first two games Barry is allowing opponents to score 59.5 points-per-game and 32 percent shooting from the field. "I think we have everyone committed to that side of the basketball. We're more athletic and can really guard the ball. I am very pleased with Isaiah Hobb's progression. He's really make nice adjustments and getting more and more comfortable."

SUMMARY:

  • The Buccaneers opened up the game on a 16-2 run and never looked back.
  • Johannes Dolven led the charge for the Buccaneers in the first half with seven points on 3/4 shooting. Barry had six players with five points or more at the break.
  • The Bucs were able to rebound and get going after missed shots by the Mariners, out-scoring CCGA 21-5 in fast break points. 
  • Barry shared the ball well offensively, with 21 assists on 34 field goals. 

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Evan Walshe led the Buccaneers in scoring with 11 points and a perfect 4/4 from the field. 
  • Lars Espe recorded a team-high seven rebounds against the Mariners from the guard position. He also chipped in nine points and four assists. 
  • Charlie Francis finished with eight points and two rebounds.
  • Freshman Aaron Simon recorded his first collegiate points against CCGA.

ON THE HORIZON:

The Bucs are off till Thursday, November 15th when take the short trip over to Miami Gardens and face St. Thomas University. Tip-off is set for 7:00 pm.
