WHAT THEY'RE SAYING:

When asked what he attributes the success to defensively, specifically blocking at the net, Buccaneer head coach Steve Hendricks believes sophomore Anastasiia Samokhvalova has a lot to do with it. "I think that when she started getting more involved offensively, she started to pick up her play on the defensive side," Hendricks said. "Also, now that she has been recognized by our conference, that has really boosted her confidence." Samokhvalova was named SSC Defensive Player of the Week on Monday and finished today's match with five solo blocks and seven assisted blocks.

SUMMARY:

  • 1st set | W 27-25 | Embry-Riddle battled it out with Barry throughout the entire set. Kristina Filimonova finished the set with more digs (7) than kills (5).
  • 2nd set | W 29-27 | In a set that the Eagles earned the right to win, the Buccaneers stole it right from underneath them. Filimonova's 12th kill of the night put Barry on top two sets to zero.
  • 3rd set | W 25-18 | The Buccaneers were able to distance themselves from the Eagles through the recipe for success that has been there all season. Barry hit over .300 for the first time in the match and held ERAU to a .118 hitting percentage.

NOTEWORTHY:.

  • Through the first 18 games, Barry has not allowed an opponent to hit over .200 this season.
  • Samokhvalova has accumalated 28 blocks in her last five matches (2.00 blk/s)

ON THE HORIZON:

The Buccaneers return tomorrow to Miami Shores and will host Florida Tech Panthers at 4:00 pm. It is the first meeting between both teams this season.
