Men's Soccer Snaps Sharks' Win Streak

Sordi with a career-high 13 saves including another penalty kick

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers used an amazing defensive performance from keeper Marco Sordi to stop the eight-game win streak by the 18th-ranked Nova Southeastern Sharks with a 2-1 decision in their Sunshine State Conference men's soccer matchup.

SUMMARY:

  • 5:17 - Lucas Russo put the Bucs on top early with a free kick goal from 21 yards.
  • 14:36 - After Sebastian Loibl was fouled in the box, Stefan Faisternauer attempted the penalty kick, but Sordi stepped up with the big save to preserve the lead.
  • 26:57 - Aleks Berg came off the bench to even the match in the 27th minute. Jan Luca Ahillen had the assist.
  • 58:13 - Flavio Colasanti took a feed from Toby Fura and drove the ball across the top of the 18-yard box. He ripped a shot to the far post past Sharks keeper Brian Lopez for the game winner.

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Marco Sordi was the difference maker for the Bucs, stopping a career-high 13 shots, including a penalty kick and five after the Colasanti goal. He picked up his sixth win of the season.
  • Lopez had five saves in his first career start, but took the loss.
  • The Sharks pressured the Bucs all night, out-shooting the Bucs 21-11, including 14-7 on goal. They also led 10-4 on corners.

The Bucs travel to Tampa, Fla., on Saturday to face the Tampa Spartans at 6:00 pm at Pepin Stadium.
