Men's Soccer Battles To Senior Night Win Over Saint Leo

Flavio Colasanti scores twice in the victory

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The 19th-ranked Barry Buccaneers got two goals from Flavio Colasanti to edge past the Saint Leo Lions on Senior Night at Buccaneer Field in Sunshine State Conference men's soccer action Saturday night.

SUMMARY:

  • 4:49 - Senior Martin Lozano broke the scoring ice in the fifth minute. Aday Gonzalez lifted a cross from the right side to the top of the 18-yard box and Lozano blasted a shot the deflected off a Lion defender and past keeper Christian Evans for the first goal of the game.
  • 6:27 - Less than two minutes later, Noah Nixon slipped the behind the Buccaneer defense on a free kick by Evans and took the ball off the head of a defender to beat keeper Marco Sordi one-on-one.
  • 12:09 - Colasanti converted a penalty kick after James Kirkham was taken down in the box by Evans.
  • 19:05 - Colasanti struck a gain in the 20th minute as Francisco Greco brought down a ball in the box and found Colasanti to shift the ball to his left foot and bent it in past Evans.
  • 64:51 - Yuga Yanagisawa converted a penaly kick of his own to pull the Lions to within one.
  • 88:31 - Francisco Greco carried the ball the length of the field and beat three Lions defenders to put the exclamation point on the night.

NOTEWORTHY:

  • The four goals matched the four that Barry scored against Delta State (4-0), Tampa (4-3 in OT) and Florida Memorial (4-0) for the most goals in a game this season.
  • For Colasanti, the brace was his first multi-goal game.
  • The Bucs played the last 48 minutes down a man, but still held a 14-8 edge in shots, including 9-3 on goal.
  • Sordi had two saves for the Bucs to earn his ninth win.
  • Evans had five saves, but allowed four goals to take the loss.

ON THE HORIZON:

The Bucs close the regular season on Tuesday, Oct. 23 at Florida Southern.
