Bucs Take Five Set Thriller Over Saint Leo

MIAMI SHORES, FL. – The Barry Buccaneers (20-2, 11-2 SSC) went into the Bowman Center and came away with a victory over the Saint Leo Lions (10-11, 7-6 SSC) 3-2 on Friday night.

SUMMARY:

  • 1st Set | L 23-25 - The Lions got off to a hot start with Outside Hitter Ashley Quero recording five kills.
  • 2nd Set | W 25-19 - Johanna Voss lit a spark for the Bucs in the second frame, recording three kills en route to a Bucs win.
  • 3rd Set | L 22-25 - Saint Leo captured the third set after scoring three aces for their 15th, 17th, and 18th points of the match.
  • 4th Set | W 25-23 - The Bucs rallied once again behind Anastasiia Samokhvalova four kills in the frame to send the game into a 5th set.
  • 5th Set | W 15-12 - Megi Buvinic and Kristina Filimonova combined for seven kills in the nail-biting extra set that saw the Bucs come out victorious.

NOTEWORTHY:.

  • Buvinic for a second night in-a-row set her season high for kills with 23 against the Lions.
  • Bianca Pasca set her season high in assist with an astounding 50 sets that turned into kills for the Bucs.
  • Samokhvalova dominated on offense, recording a season-high 13 kills.
  • Saint Leo is the first opponent to hit above .200 against Barry this season.
