Bucs climb to 11-3

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers rode a strong second half performance to a 72-54 win over the Saint Leo Lions on Wednesday at Cesar Odio Court in the Health & Sport Center in Sunshine State Conference women's basketball action.

SUMMARY:

  • 1Q - Though the Lions took an early 7-5 lead, the Bucs rolled off a 12-4 run over the next 3:32. Barbara Cousiño drained three free throws to cap it. | Barry 22, Saint Leo 16
  • 2Q - The Bucs struggled to get untracked in the second quarter, hitting just 2-of-11 from the field as the Lions closed to lead to one point, 28-27 on a buzzer-beater by Day Jackson. | Barry 28, Saint Leo 27

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Cousiño led a balanced Buccaneer attack with 15 points, 11 of which came in the first half.
  • Juhane Richardson, who keyed the big third quarter, added 14 points. 
  • Kiara Palmer had 13 points and Swindells added 10.
  • The Bucs dominated the boards 52-30 and out-shot the Lions 45 percent to 29.5. 
  • Gina Brierley led the Lions with 24, a season-high.
  • The Bucs held the Lions' leading scorer, Regan Dotson without a field goal and just two points.

The Bucs host the Florida Tech Panthers on Saturday, Jan. 6 at 2:00 pm on Cesar Odio Court in the Health & Sports Center.
