Women's Basketball - Saturday, Jan. 27, 2:00 pm, Health & Sports Center

It will be a matchup of two very similar teams on Saturday when the Barry women (14-5, 7-4 SSC) host the Eckerd Tritons (14-5, 8-4 SSC). The two teams are seperated by just a half game in the standings and only two games back of leader Florida Southern in the loss column. The Bucs are coming off back-to-back wins over Lynn at home and Rollins on the road, but had a bye on Wednesday and haven't played in a week. Barry is currently sixth and Eckerd seventh in the D2SIDA Media South Region Poll.

Though Kiara Palmer leads the Bucs in scoring (15.0), rebounding (9.6), shooting (55.7) and blocked shots (3.0), she has seen her production wane since scoring 23 points against Tampa on Dec. 9. In the last seven games, she has topped 20 points just once, and been held under 10 points twice.  Barbara Cousiño is second on the team in scoring at 14.5 points per game. She leads the team with 2.9 assists per game. Ida Andersson is averaging 10.6 points and 5.6 rebounds per game.

The Tritons snapped a three-game skid on Jan. 17 against Saint Leo and have since won three in a row, taking dow both Florida Tech and Tampa at home.

The Tritons have a balanced inside/out attack. Guard Kacie Juday leads the way with 12.4 points per game and also tops the squad with 8.3 rebounds per game. Forward Yarden Danan is averaging 11.0 points per game and is the top outside threat, hitting 58.5 percent from beyond the arc and 2.0 makes per game. Center Zoe Richards rounds out the double-figure scorers at 10.5 per game. She is shooting a remarkable 61.0 percent from the floor.

Men's Basketball - Wednesday, Jan. 17, 7:30 pm, Health & Sports Center

Barry dropped out of the Top 25 in both Division II polls for the first time since Jan. 12, 2016. But the Buccaneers have a golden opportunity to capitalize Saturday with Eckerd sitting half a game in front atop the Sunshine State Conference standings. A win would mean a season sweep over the Tritons, and give the Bucs the upper hand.

The Bucs have swept the season series from the Tritons twice since 2015. They have won four in a row against Eckerd.

Junior guard Sawyer Glick is coming off his third 30-plus point game of the season. Junior forward Marko Tomic has scored in double figures in three straight games. Senior forward Sunday Dech has reached double figures in four of the past five games. But the Buccaneers have not won back-to-back games since the end of December and first week of January.

The good news is Barry has responded from a loss with a victory three times this season. This presents the fourth opportunity for that scenario.

Eckerd is riding a three-game win streak. The Tritons have won each of those games by 10 points or more. Drushaun McLaurn is averaging 19.6 points and 6.6 rebounds, while shooting 61.1 percent from the field. Trevon Young is averaging 16.4 points and 9.4 boards, while shooting 52 percent. Blake Morrow is scoring 13.7 points, and Keshawn Ingram 11.6. McLaurn had 28 points in the first meeting versus the Bucs this season. Ingram scored 19, and Young 12.

  • The Bucs lead the SSC in made three-pointers at 12.9 and are second in percentage at 38.8 percent.
  • Despite their outside proclivities, the Bucs average 32.9 points per game in the paint and 13.5 on second-chance opportunities
  • Barry is getting 29.7 points per game off the bench.
  • Though they approach it different ways, the Bucs and Tritons are 1-2 in the conference in scoring margin. Barry leads at 11.9 thanks to an offense that averages over 90 points per game. The Tritons are second at 11.4 thanks to their top-rated defense that allows just 73.9 points per game.
