Women's Basketball Rallies Past Tars On The Road

Fourth-quarter rally lifts Bucs over Rollins

WINTER PARK, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers rallied back from a six-point fourth quarter deficit to sink the Rollins Tars 70-62 in Warden Arena on Saturday in Sunshine State Conference women's basketball action.

SUMMARY:

  • 1Q - The Bucs jumped out to a fast start, building an 11-1 lead after the first 4:41. Ida Andersson and Kiara Palmer each had four points. The Tars battled back to cut the lead to two points, 15-13 at the 2:22 mark, but went 0-for-3 from the field and 0-for-2 from the line the rest of the way. A three-pointer by Barbara Cousiño and a jumper by Ayida Peters gave the Bucs a seven-point margin at the break. | Barry 20, Rollins 13 
  • 2Q - A 6-2 run to start the second quarter gave Barry a 10-point lead again, on a jumper by Lexy Schoonover with 8:38 remaining. Though the Bucs maintained their lead for most of the rest of the quarter, the Tars battled back to tie it up 30-30 with 0:27 second left before half on  jumper by Denise Daniels.   • 3Q - Barry started out strong with baskets by Palmer and Cousiño, but the Tars used a 12-2 over 2:15 of the quarter to take a 46-42 lead. | Rollins 53, Barry 49
  • 4Q - The Tars still held a four-point lead with 5:56 left to play when Barry went off for a 15-0 run to take their biggest lead of the game, 11 points, with less than a minute to play. | Barry 70, Rollins 62

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Cousiño led the Bucs with 17 points. Granada added 13 and Andersson had 12. 
  • Julia Ingler led Rollins with 12.
  • Barry out-shot the Tars at the free throw line. Barry hit 16-of-26, while the Tars were just 5-of-8.
  • The teams came in 1-2 in the conference in blocked shots, but combined for zero blocks in the game.
  • Barry has now won three of the last four in Winter Park. The Bucs have swept the season series from the Tars in two of the last three years. 

ON THE HORIZON:

The Bucs are off on Wednesday, but host the Eckerd Tritons on Saturday, Jan. 27.
