Bucs face Embry-Riddle on Saturday

MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry women's basketball team faces a crucial road test in Daytona Beach, Fla., on Saturday, Jan. 13 when they face off in the ICI Center against the Embry-Riddle Eagles.

The Bucs (12-4, 5-3 SSC) are looking to get back on the winning side after falling 78-66 to the Florida Southern Moccasins on Wednesday. It was the first home loss of the season for the Bucs. They are just 1-3 in road games this season. The game will pit the Bucs against one of the conference leaders once again. The Eagles are tied with the Bucs and Tampa for second place in the Sunshine State Conference.

Kiara Palmer's 15.9 points per game lead the team and are sixth in the SSC. She tops the league in rebounding at 10.1 per game and in total blocked shots at 51. Barbara Cousiño is second on the team in scoring at 14.5 points per game and leads the team with 2.9 assists. Ida Andersson chips in 10.4 points and 5.7 rebounds per game. Freshman Harriet Swindells is the top three-point shooter, sinking 39.6 percent of her shots beyond the arc and averaging 2.4 makes per game. Stephane Granada averages 7.5 points per game and has a better than 2:1 assist turnover ratio.

The Eagles, who have split their last six games, are on a two-game winning streak in conference, having defeated Eckerd and Nova Southeastern.

Senior forward Tara Fields leads the Eagles at 16.5 points per game, ranking fourth in the league. She is alo fourth in field goal shooting at 52.7 percent.  Guard Sabrina Whiting and Lauren Ellenberger are second and third in scoring respectively and take care of the outside offense. Whiting averages 12.6 points per game, while Ellenberger chips in 9.0 and a team-high 4.8 assists, which also tops the conference. Guard Nicole Tucker leads the team in rebounding at 6.8 per game.

  • In a battle of contrasts, the Bucs are second in the league in scoring at 71.5 points per game, while the Eagles are third in defense at 60.9

  • Barry averages 20.8 points per game off the bench, compared to just 12.8 per game for the opponents
