Volleyball Falls 3-0 to Tritons

Bucs hurt by errors, head to Nova Southeastern Tuesday

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Barry University's volleyball team was plagued by too many errors in Saturday's 25-14, 25-14, 25-19 loss at home to Eckerd.

The Buccaneers were hurt by 15 attack errors and 17 serve reception errors in a match they could never get command of. Barry hit .151, while the Tritons had a .247 attack percentage.

SUMMARY:

  • Barry had eight kills and nine attack errors in the first set for a - .038 hitting percentage. Meanwhile, Eckerd hit .259 with three attack errors. The Bucs got within 14-12 on Johanna Voss' kill. But the Tritons rattled off 11 of the next 13 points to take the opening set.
  • The Bucs fell behind 8-4 in the second set before pulling within 10-8 on a kill by Brittany Reynolds. Eckerd extended its lead to 20-12 on a Bucs attack error. Kali Boatwright and Paula Hoffmann each put away kills down the stretch to send the Tritons into the intermission ahead 2-0 in the match. Barry managed seven kills in the middle set to Eckerd's 14. The Tritons hit .323 in the second set, while the Buccaneers had a .074 attack clip.
  • A block by Kishara Gordon and Nathaly Alvarez pulled Barry within 10-8. The Tritons went on a 6-2 run to extend their lead to six. Brittany Reynold's block moved the Bucs within 20-16, but two straight aces by Kaitlyn Sibson gave the Tritons a seven-point lead down the stretch, and Barry could not recover.

NOTEWORTHY:
  • Filimonova had nine kills and no attack errors, and hit .600.
  • Gordon had five kills, three blocks, and hit .300.
  • Alvarez and Juliana Tirabassi each 11 assists. Tirabassi led the Bucs with nine digs.
  • Eckerd's 17 aces was a school record in the rally scoring era.

ON THE HORIZON:

The Bucs will play at Nova Southeastern 7 p.m. Tuesday.
