Women's Soccer Gets First Conference Win

Traynor tallies the only goal in a 1-0 victory

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers got their first Sunshine State Conference women's soccer win of the season with a 1-0 victory over the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish on Wednesday night at Buccaneer Field.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP
Final: Barry 1, Palm Beach Atlantic 0
Records: Barry (2-1-1, 1-0-1 SSC), PBA (1-5-0, 0-3-0 SSC)
All-Time Series: Barry leads 14-0-0

SUMMARY:

  • 1st Half - The first half ended 0-0 as neither team could find the back of the net.
  • In the 31st minute, the Sailfish has their best scoring chance as they caught the Bucs in a counter-attack. Karina Williams ripped a shot from 20 yeards out that Barry keeper Melanie Ziegner had to dive to save.
  • Barry led 9-3 in shouts, but it was 2-2 on goal.
  • In the second half, it was more of the same as the Bucs out-shot the 'Fish 8-3, but this time the Bucs put four on goal to just one for PBA.
  • Amanda Traynor took a feed from Sofia Sharos out of the midfield and maneuvered her way through the left side of the Sailfish defense. Her shot, in the 74th minute, to the far post eluded keeper Isabelle Granlund for the only score the Bucs would need.

NOTEWORTHY:

  • The Sailfish played 19 players to the Bucs' 14.
  • For Traynor, it was her team-leading third goal of the season. She has tallied in three of the four games. It was her first game-winner.
  • Ziegner had three saves to post her second straight shutout.
  • Granlund had five saves, but allowed Traynor's goal to take the loss for PBA.
  • The Bucs have now won all 14 meetings with the Sailfish, dating back to 2001. In the last nine games, Barry has allowed only two goals to PBA.

ON THE HORIZON:

The Bucs travel to Daytona Beach, Fla., to face the Embry-Riddle Eagles on Saturday, Sept. 30.
