JACKSON, Miss. -- Barry's men's soccer team opened the 2017 season with a 1-0 loss to Delta State Thursday night at the Jackson Academy soccer field.

WHAT THEY'RE SAYING:
"One of our goals this season was to not defeat ourselves, and today was the best example of that," head coach Steve McCrath said. "We will regroup. This season is short, but long enough to be corrected."
SUMMARY:
FIRST HALF
- Neither side found the back of the net during the first half.
- The Bucs outshot the Statesmen 8-6.
SECOND HALF
- Although the Bucs continued to outshoot the Statesmen in the second half, Delta were the ones who broke the silence with a goal from Ashley Walker in the 89th minute. Walker was assisted by Tom Bar-Yosef.
NOTEWORTHY:
- Bo Haug took the loss for the Bucs, allowing one goal and making two saves on the night.
- Harvey Stevens grabbed the first win of the season for the Statesmen, keeping a clean slate while making five saves.
ON THE HORIZON:
The Bucs move on to their second game of the season on Saturday, as they take on the host, Mississippi College. The match will be played at 4:30 pm on Robert P. Longabaugh Field in Clinton, Miss.
