Men's Soccer Draws With Mississippi College

Haug had a career-high eight saves

JACKSON, Miss. -- The Barry Buccaneers earned a 1-1 draw on the road with the Choctaws of Mississippi College Saturday afternoon in Division II men's soccer action. Due to field complications, the match was played at Belhaven Bowl Stadium in Jackson, Miss.

WHAT THEY'RE SAYING:

"This match was a battle, which had to be won by the attackers as it wasn't going to be lost by either goalkeeper," head coach Steve McCrath said. "It's tough only getting one point from the weekend, but as I said before, we will not beat ourselves again, and we didn't."

SUMMARY:

FIRST HALF

  • Barry found the back of the net first in the 34th minute after a combination of give and go's between Sergio Yepes and Jerrell Cato to set up Yepes down the right flank to bury a shot to the lower left corner of the goal. This was Yepes's first goal of the season.
  • Less than 10 minutes later, the Choctaws knotted the score at 1-1 with a goal from Horacio Gutierrez. Gutierrez was assisted by Jacob Farthing and Michael Kuwornu.

SECOND HALF

  • Both sides were scoreless in the second half and forced to go into overtime.
  • Barry outshot Mississippi College 9-7.
OVERTIME
  • The Bucs and the Choctaws played a scoreless 1st and 2nd overtime, ending the game in a 1-1 draw.
  • The Choctaws held a 16-15 edge in shots over the Bucs

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Bo Haug kept the Bucs in the game, allowing just one goal and making a career-high of eight saves in a single game.
  • Humberto Pelaez also allowed just one goal for the Choctaws and made seven saves, one less than Haug.

ON THE HORIZON:

Barry hosts West Alabama on Friday Sept. 8 at 6 pm on Buccaneer Field in the 2017 home opener.
