ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. --
Verena Schmid had never been in this position. Let's be clear about this, too -- it was a tall order.
Schmid, the 33rd-ranked player in the country, had to grind out a 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 victory over eighth-ranked Min Liu at No. 3 singles to give the second-ranked Buccaneers a 5-4 win over No. 1 BYU-Hawai'i in a battle of unbeatens in the NCAA Division II quarterfinals at Sanlando Park.
Barry overcame a 2-1 doubles deficit by winning four of the six singles points to hand the Seasiders their only loss of the season in a match that had national championship written all over it.
"It was kind of a lot of pressure for all of us because we knew we had to win four singles, which is really (asking) a lot against really good players," Schmid said. "But we did it."

- Barry ended BYU-Hawai'i's season in the 2015 NCAA semifinals in Surprise, Arizona.
WHAT THEY'RE SAYING:
"The atmosphere was insane, all the people who were watching at the end, as well as the guys team, which is nice that they support as well. So the atmosphere was very good, but if you play, it's kind of (a lot of) pressure as well."
-- Sophomore Verena Schmid
