Baseball Wins Series Against Tars

Bucs won 6-1 in game one on the day, and then came back to win 6-5 in extra innings in game two!

WINTER PARK, Fla. -- Barry baseball won both games in the doubleheader Saturday to grab the series win against Rollins.The Bucs won 6-1 in game one to tie the series, and then came back to battle with the Tars into the 13th inning where they ended up winning 6-5.

SUMMARY:
Game 1

  • T3: Bucs got off to a good start in game one of the doubleheader, bringing in the first two runs of the game in the third. Ryan Baldwin singled to score Julian Abreu, and Justin Lamazares batted in Alexis Monge-Rodriguez while reaching on a fielder's choice.
  • T5: Jonathan Quintana homered to left center, scoring two RBI to make it 4-0 Bucs.
  • B6: BJ Minarcin singled up the middle to score one RBI, getting the Tars on the board.
  • T9: Barry finished off the scoring for the first game with two more runs in the ninth. Lamazares singled to score Monge, and Baldwin scored on a failed pickoff attempt by the pitcher.

Game 2

  • T3: Abreu started the scoring for the Bucs in game two on the day with a single to left field, scoring Michael Escarra.
  • B5: Nick Breen knotted the game with a single up the middle to score Corbett, making it 1-1.
  • B7: The Tars took the 5-1 lead in the bottom of the seventh. Peter Nicoletto had a two-run homer to right field.
  • T9: Barry tied the game at 5-5 in the ninth, extending the game into extra innings. Andrew Rapoza and Abreu each had RBI singles.
  • T13: Abreu singled up the middle to score the go-ahead run. The 6-5 lead lasted through the rest of the inning, giving the Bucs the series win.

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Luis Deville (3-3) won the first game for the Bucs, giving up just five hits and one run through nine innings.
  • Brian Auerbach (3-5) was dealt the loss in game one for the Tars after giving up nine hits and four runs.
  • Blaine Duncan (4-2) won game two for Barry, giving up just one hit.
  • James Doherty (0-2) lost game two for Rollins, after allowing four hits and one run.
  • Armando Gonzalez (1) picked up his first save of the season for Barry, holding the Tars in extra innings to secure the series win.

ON THE HORIZON:

Barry plays their final home series of the 2017 season next weekend, as they host Lynn from April 28-29.
