MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- BarryU men's tennis coach
George Samuel doesn't gush much. In fact, most of the time, he's extremely low key.
But the day before his NCAA Division II No. 2-ranked team's final regular season match with NAIA No. 3 Keiser, Samuel was speaking with no ambiguity.
"He's the best player I've ever coached," he said. "And if I'm saying that, it ought to mean something."
Take it from the horse's mouth, himself. The player he's referring to you ask?
Ahmed Triki.
Triki, along with fellow senior
Nico Dreer, will play his last regular season match at Buccaneer Tennis Center 3 p.m. Wednesday when the Bucs (17-1) host the Seahawks (17-3). The match will be available via
LIVE STATS.
A three-time All-American in singles and doubles, Triki is 11-3 at No. 1 singles and 14-2 with
Pierre Montrieul at No. 1 doubles this season. He's won 54 singles matches in his four-year career, and has 76 doubles victories, which stands six away from tying the school record held by Ollie Lemaitre.
Dreer, a three-time All-Sunshine State Conference selection, is off to a 15-0 start this year, with 11 of those wins coming at the No. 4 singles position. He is 6-0 with
Fernando Tous at No. 3 doubles. Dreer has 59 career singles victories, which is eight shy of the school record held by Thomas Hipp and Max Wimmer.
Both Triki and Dreer were part of the 2015 NCAA Championship team that went 26-0.
"These guys have done some pretty special things in their four years here," Samuel said. "It's only fitting we send them out the right way."
