No. 2 Men's Tennis Manhandle No. 49 PBA

Bucs head to Florida Southern, Florida Tech this weekend

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – In a makeup match from earlier this season, No. 2 Barry men's tennis had its way with No. 49 Palm Beach Atlantic Thursday, winning 9-0.

It was Barry's third straight shutout and the Buccaneers' seventh overall this season.

Thomas Bugeaud re-entered the Bucs' lineup, and delivered wins at No. 5 singles and No. 3 doubles in convincing fashion. Victor Ravier and Daniel Ventura also picked up singles victories after layoffs.

SUMMARY:

  • Bugeaud partnered with Carlos Gomez at No. 3 doubles to beat Philipp Hoffmann and Stanislav Feofilov, 8-2, for the first pairs point.
  • Nico Dreer and Fernando Tous won their fourth straight match together, beating Pato Zarazua and Pietro de Silva, 8-2, at the No. 2 position.
  • No. 4-ranked Ahmed Triki and Pierre Montrieul survived, 8-6, in their match with Rafael Lenz and Bernardo Ferreira at No. 1 doubles.
  • Bugeaud was the first to win in singles as he rolled to a 6-1, 6-2 victory over de Silva at the No. 5 position. That gave the Bucs a 4-0 lead.
  • Fabian Pronnet clinched the victory by defeating Hoffmann, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 3 singles.
  • Ventura blanked Ferreira, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 4 singles to make it 6-0.
  • Dreer defeated Lenz, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 2 singles.
  • After dropping the first set, second-ranked Triki rallied to beat Zarazua in a third-set super tiebreaker, 4-6, 6-2, 10-5, at No. 1 singles.
  • Ravier polished off the sweep with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Carlos Meneses at the No. 6 position.

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Ravier was playing in his first singles match since Feb. 23. He's 3-0 this season.
  • Bugeaud returned to the lineup after a two-week break. He improved to 4-1 in singles.
  • Ventura also made his way back into the lineup for the first time in two weeks. He is now 5-0.

ON THE HORIZON:

Barry plays at No. 38 Florida Southern 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the first of two weekend matches.
