LAKELAND, Fla. -- Barry's No. 3 women's tennis team improved to 6-0 in the Sunshine State Conference after beating host No. 25 Florida Southern Sunday.

The Buccaneers swept doubles for the 16th time this season to take a 3-0 lead. 16th-ranked Sonja Larsen and Karina Goia won their respective Nos. 5 and 6 singles matches to clinch the victory for Barry.

SUMMARY:

  • Larsen improved to 17-0 in singles after beating Lola Asis, 6-2, 6-1. That gave Barry a 4-0 lead.
  • Goia beat Magda Stepnik, 6-0, 6-3, at No. 6 singles to secure Barry's victory.
  • Barry's 18th-ranked Ana Pain and Larsen coasted to an 8-1 win over Sasha Nionova and Selin Devrimci at the No. 1 doubles position for the first point in the match.
  • Isabel Rapisarda Calvo and Dasha Salnikova put the Bucs up, 2-0, following an 8-2 win over Lorena Rionda and Stepnik at No. 3 pairs.
  • Zuza Macijewska and Verena Schmid were 8-4 winners over Linnea Skymberg and Natalija Popovic at the No. 2 spot to complete the doubles sweep.
  • No. 31 Rapisarda Calvo defeated Devrimci, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 3 singles.
  • Pain walked past Popovic, 6-0, 6-3, at No. 4 singles. Her win gave Barry a 7-0 lead.
  • Salnikova, ranked 18th in the country, overcame Skymberg, 6-4, 7-6 (7-2), at No. 2 singles.

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Goia, Pain and Larsen are all undefeated in singles this season.
  • Larsen won her 50th career singles match. She ranks 15th on the school's all-time list.
  • Salnikova was competing in her first singles match since retiring with an injury on March 8.
