Buccaneer Baseball Splits Sunday Ball With PBA

PBA grabbed the first game, and Barry took the second.

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Barry baseball split the final two games of the weekend series with Palm Beach Atlantic on Sunday. PBA won the first game that was carried over from Saturday due to weather, and Barry finished off the series with a 3-1 win in the second game of the day.

SUMMARY:
Game 1

  • T3: Sean Visconti got it started for the Sailfish when he singled to first base, allowing Jake Summey to score.
  • T6: It wasn't until the sixth when PBA increased their lead to 3-0. Mac Hessney had an RBI single, and Summey hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Marcos Perez from third.
  • B6: Julian Abreu gave the Bucs some life with a home run to right field, scoring two RBI. Claudio Rubiera doubled in the same inning to score Ryan Baldwin to make it 3-3.
  • T7: Andrew Calderone answered back with a homer himself the next inning to take the lead back for the Sailfish.
  • T9: Visconti came back to homer in the ninth to make it 6-3 PBA.
  • B9: Andrew Rapoza wrapped up the scoring in game one on the day, hitting a double down the left field line to score Michael Escarra. Final score of the game was 6-4 Sailfish.

Game 2

  • B1: Rubiera homered in the last game of the series to knock in Barry's only runs of the game. He scored three RBI, including Baldwin and Abreu.
  • T9: Kyle Simon scored PBA's only run of the last game, as he homered to left center.

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Tyler Hawks (1-3) took the win in game two of the series, giving up six hits and three runs.
  • Joey Hennessey (7) grabbed the save for the Sailfish in the beginning game of the day, after striking out two in the ninth.
  • Armando Gonzalez (2-2) was dealt the loss in the second game of the series, giving up four hits and three runs.
  • Nate Greve (1-3) pitched 8.1 innings and came away with the win for the Bucs, giving up just four hits and one run.
  • Daniel Broeseker (5) picked up his fifth save of the season in the final game of the series.

ON THE HORIZON:

The Bucs head back to Davie, FL to take on the Sharks of Nova Southeastern on March 31 and April 1, in a three-game conference series.
