INSIDE THE MATCHUP
Final: Barry 4, Tampa 1
Records: Tampa (21-6, 9-4 SSC), Barry (15-15, 8-5 SSC)
All-Time Series: Barry leads 74-39
WHAT THEY'RE SAYING:
"The team showed a lot of character tonight," head coach Danielle Penner said. "The way we bounced back after falling behind was very encouraging. The Spartans have one of the top pitching staffs in the conference, but we just kept working and having progressively better at-bats as the game wore on."
SUMMARY:
- B-4th - The Spartans took advantage of the Bucs' lone error in the fourth. Bre Setree reached on an error. After a fielder's choice, Makaleigh Dooley launched a double into the left-center field gap to score the run.
- T-5th - Kristina Osorio led off with a double over the head of Shelby Press in left field. Two outs later, Sam Busekrus ripped a single through the right side to knot the game at 1-1.
- T-6th - After Alayna Gallagher and Lynsey Duncan drew one-out walks off of Dooley, the Spartans brought in Coryn Minor to pitch to Jasmine Harris. Harris turned Minor's 1-1 offering around and over the wall in left-center for a three-run homer.
NOTEWORTHY:
- Christie Falcon (5-8) continued her superb pitching, tossing her fourth straight complete game to earn the win. She allowed just the unearned run on two hits and, for the third straight game, did not walk a batter. She struck out four.
- Dooley (13-3) took the loss for Tampa. She set the Bucs down in order in the first three innings, but left in the sixth after walking Gallagher and Duncan.
- Barry has now won six in a row and eight of their last nine.
ON THE HORIZON:
The teams play a twin bill on Saturday starting at noon to conclude the series.
