Baseball Battles Back Against AIC To Grab The Win At Home

Two homers in the ninth keep the Bucs alive!

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers battled back from being down four runs going into the bottom of the ninth, to take the win and beat the Yellow Jackets 12-11.

WHAT THEY'RE SAYING:

"We kept fighting and never stopped believing we were going to win," head coach Juan Ranero said. "It's a feeling we have developed over the last couple of games."

SUMMARY:

  • T1: AIC jumped on the Bucs early, knocking in four runs in the first inning. Matt Krause had an inside the park home run to center field.
  • B1: Barry got two runs back before the end of the first to trim AIC's lead to two. Claudio Rubiera doubled to right field to score one RBI. Alffredi Ramos had a single through the right side to score one RBI as well.
  • B3: The Bucs tied the ball game up 4-4 with the help of a double from Rubiera, his second of the game.
  • T4: Owen Woslegeer flew out to center field to score Joe Pepe from third to take the 5-4 lead.
  • B4: Khalil Denson singled to right field to knock in Andrew Rapoza to knot the game up again, 5-5.
  • B5: Barry took the lead for the first time in the game when Ramos singled through the right side to score Justin Lamazares, good for his second RBI on the night.
  • T6: Krause knocked out his second homer of the night, this time it was a grand slam to take the 9-6 lead.
  • B6: Rapoza scored on a wild pitch in the sixth to bring the Bucs within two of the Yellow Jackets.
  • T8: The Yellow Jackets batted in two more runs in the eighth to extend their lead to 11-7.
  • B9: Ryan Baldwin got the rally started when he crushed a home run over the right field fence, scoring three RBI to bring the Bucs within one run of the Yellow Jackets. Ramos followed him right after with a back-to-back home run to the same side to tie the game up at 11-11. Anthony Rondon knocked the ball towards the AIC shortstop who was unable to come up with the play, allowing Rondon to reach first and pinch runner Juan Sebastian Dayoub to come home and score the winning run.

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Blaine Duncan (3-0) grabbed the win for the Bucs. He struck out two of the three batters faced.
  • Brendan LaVallee (0-1) took the loss for the Yellow Jackets, giving up two hits and two runs.

ON THE HORIZON:

Barry will travel to play Eckerd this weekend in their second three-game conference series of the season.
