SAVANNAH, Ga. -- Barry women's tennis team is cruising along here with one more big test to go on this Georgia Spring Break trip.
The sixth-ranked Buccaneers beat No. 14 Valdosta State, 5-0, Saturday at Armstrong State in a neutral site match. Only one doubles match was contested as VSU's Laura Ubeda and Estes Widdershoven pushed Barry's
Karina Goia and
Isabel Rapisarda Calvo to the brink before the Bucs survived, 9-7. That gave Barry a 3-Love lead entering singles.
No. 22-ranked
Sonja Larsen breezed by Ubeda, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 3 singles, and
Zuza Maciejewska was a 6-1, 6-2 winner over Anja Cosovic, 6-1, 6-2, at the No. 2 position to seal the deal. The remaining three matches went unfinished after the two teams agreed to stop at five points.
