Softball Splits With Panthers

Bucs take series 2-1

MELBOURNE, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers took game one 7-5 over the Florida Tech Panthers to clinch the series win, but could not complete the sweep, losing 14-13 in the finale at Nancy Bottge Field on Saturday.

SUMMARY:
GAME ONE:

  • T-3rd - Cheyanne Head hit a one-out triple to right and scored when Vanessa Rubio threw the ball away.
  • B-3rd - Makayla Palmer knocked in Krista Patterson with a single.
  • T-4th - Avery Cotterill had an RBI double and Madison VonHagel scored on an error to give the Bucs a 3-1 lead.
  • T-6th - Kristina Osorio belted a solo homer to center field.
  • B-6th - Juliana Goldberg matched Osorio with a solo shot to left.
  • B-7th - Goldberg poked a two-run single up the middle to send the game into extra innings.
  • T-8th - VonHagel knocked in Lynsey Duncan to put Barry up 5-4.
  • B-8th - The Panthers evened the game with an RBI single from Patterson.
  • T-9th - Duncan knocked in Head and Catie Falcon for a 7-5 Buccaneer advantage.

SUMMARY:
GAME TWO:

  • T-1st - The Bucs got on the board first as Duncan scored on an error by Patterson.
  • B-1st - The Panthers struck back for five runs in their half. Palmer had a two-run double and Goldberg and Hailey Leonard each had run-scoring singles.
  • T-2nd - The Bucs bounced back with six runs in the second, highlighted by a two-run double by Jasmine Harris and single RBIs from VonHagel, Cotterill and Alayna Gallagher.
  • T-4th - Barry tacked on two more runs in the fourth as Osorio homered to center, scoring Harris in front of her.
  • B-5th - The Panthers pulled to within one with a three-run fifth. Katie Maiella had a two-run single.
  • B-6th - Florida Tech took a 12-9 lead with four runs in the sixth. Leonard had a two-run double.
  • T-7th - The Bucs regained the lead 13-12 on a grand slam from Harris.
  • B-7th - The Bucs walked in one run and Leonard had an RBI single for the game-winner.

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Anieliese Palmeiro (2-2) worked the final two innings of game one to earn the win. Rachel Pence (8-9) took the loss for the second straight game.
  • Christie Falcon (1-8) was tagged with the loss in game two. McKenzie Kutsinger (1-2) worked 5.2 innings in relief for the win.
  • Osorio homered in both ends of the doubleheader to give her the team lead at five.
  • Harris' grand slam was the first for the Bucs since Julie Brito connected at St. Thomas on Feb. 21, 2015.
  • Harris' six RBI in the second game ties her for second on the Barry single game record. Six other players have also had six RBI in a game, the latest: Dee Espinosa on Feb.27, 2016 against Ave Maria. Ashley Loose has the record at seven against Ohio Valley on Mar. 9, 2007.

ON THE HORIZON:

The Bucs return home to host the Molloy Lions on Wednesday, Mar. 15 in a doubleheader starting at 4:00 pm.
