Softball Opens With 5-1 Win Over Florida Tech

Avery Cotterill knocked in the winning run in the 7th

MELBOURNE, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers rode a four-run seventh inning to a 5-1 win over the Florida Tech Panthers at Nancy Bottge Field on Friday afternoon in the first game of their Sunshine State Conference softball series.

SUMMARY:

  • B-3rd - Krista Patterson lifted a fly ball to right to score Karina Suicava.
  • T-5th - Sam Busekrus had a sacrifice fly of her own to score Madison VonHagel to knot the game at 1-1.
  • T-7th - The Bucs busted the game open with a four-run seventh. Kristina Osorio belted a lead off double to left, that narrowly missed going out. Two batters later, Avery Cotterill came up with a single through the left side to give Barry a 2-1 lead. Cotterill scored on a single by Cheyanne Head and Lynsey Duncan put a capper on the inning with a two-run single through the hole at short.

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Geneva Santos (3-1) worked six strong innings in relief to earn her third win of the season. She walked three and struck out two, but allowed only two hits and one run.
  • Rachel Pence (8-9) was tagged with the loss. She allowed five runs (four earned) on six hits and four walks, while striking out five.
  • Duncan led the Bucs with two hits and a two RBI.

ON THE HORIZON:

The series concludes with a doubleheader on Saturday at noon.
