Baseball Loses Home Opener To Ave Maria

Miscues and a rough start to the game lost control for the Bucs

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Barry's baseball team lost their home opener Wednesday night to Ave Maria 11-3.

SUMMARY:

  • T1: The Gyrenes scored early when Justin Hartshorne scored off of a sacrifice fly from teammate Ryan Keegan.
  • B1: Ryan Baldwin advanced home from third to score for the Bucs, as Paul Salata was hit by a pitch with bases loaded.
  • T2: AMU regained the lead with four added runs in the second inning. Matt Wiles doubled to left center, grabbing three RBI.
  • B2: Baldwin came back in the second inning to knock in Juan Sebastian Dayoub with a shot up the middle, to make it 5-2 AMU.
  • T4: Ryan Cook increased the lead for the Gyrenes with a hit to the right side of the field to score Hartshorne.
  • T5: Hartshorne drove a ball that made it by Barry's shortstop and third baseman to score Steven Valentine.
  • B5: Barry outfielder, Reuben Pino knocked in Andrew Puglielli to score the Buc's final run of the game to make the score 7-3, in favor of the Gyrenes.
  • T8: The Gyrenes added three more runs in the eighth. Barry's pitching helped, hitting several of AMU's batters with bases loaded.
  • T9: Rico Soto rounded up the scoring for the night, singling up the middle to knock in Hartshorne to make the final score 11-3 AMU.

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Zack Rose grabbed his first win of the season for the Gyrenes, giving up three hits and two runs through 13 batters.
  • Pablo Arevalo took the loss for the Bucs, giving up five runs in two innings pitched.
  • Jonathan Quintana was hit by a pitch twice, and stole two bases as well.
  • Baldwin went 2-5 with one run and one RBI for the Bucs.
  • Valentine went 4-5 for the Gyrenes, and had two runs and one RBI.

ON THE HORIZON:

The Bucs continue season play this weekend in a three-game series against Pfeiffer University. The games will take place from Friday to Sunday, with one game a day.
