Records: Nova Southeastern 4-0; Barry 1-2

WHAT THEY'RE SAYING:

"We had stretches where we made some poor decisions with fundamentals," pitching coach Alex Gonzalez said. "When you do that, it makes it tough to win in close games. We will work hard to iron out those issues. Overall, our team competed, and we came to play and win. Obviously, not the end result we wanted, but we're making strides in the right direction."

SUMMARY:

  • B1: The Sharks got on the board early when Dylan Woods homered to right field. Later in the inning, Kevin Suarez singled to drive in Jeremy Vasquez to give Nova Southeastern a two-run lead.
  • T2: Barry came back in the second inning to knock in five runs. Alffredi Ramos was walked home with the bases loaded. Alexis Monge-Rodriguez singled up the middle to score Jonathan Quintana and Paul Salata. Juan Sebastian Dayoub later tagged up from third to score when Justin Lamazares flew out to right field. To round out the scoring in the inning, Monge scored on a double-steal on the Sharks' attempt to throw out Khalil Denson, who was breaking for second base.
  • B4: The Sharks answered back with five runs of their own to take a 7-5 lead.
  • T5: Both Lamazares and Ramos homered in the fifth to notch a 7-7 deadlock.
  • B11: The Sharks stole the show when Vasquez hit a walk-off single, scoring Jancarlos Cintron for the gamewinning run.

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Josh Glick (1-0) grabbed the win for the Sharks, after only giving up one hit.
  • Nate Greve (0-1) took the loss for the Bucs, even though he only gave up one hit and one run.

ON THE HORIZON:

The Buccaneers will play 6 p.m. Wednesday in the home opener against Ave Maria.
