Softball Bounces Back With 6-3 Win Over Tigers

Freshmen Rawls and Cotterill homer and Dominguez gets the win

GULF SHORES, Ala. -- The freshmen led the Barry Buccaneers to a 6-3 win over Tuskegee on Friday at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex.

  • T-1st -- Freshman Peyton Rawls ripped an 0-1 pitch over the left field wall for her first career homer, scoring Lynsey Duncan who had singled.
  • B-1st -- The Tigers got one run back in the bottom of the first. Shakayia Wilson scored on a throwing error.
  • T-2nd -- Freshman Avery Cotterill blasted a lead-off homer in the second.
  • T-3rd -- Alayna Gallagher singled, stole second and scored on a single by Nicole Szelest.
  • B-3rd -- Wilson scored again on a error after doubling to left.
  •  T-5th -- Duncan walked and scored on a Tigers' error in the fifth.

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Sofie Dominguez (1-0) worked the final four innings in relief of Geneva Santos for her first career win. She allowed one run on four hits and a three walks.
  • Acey Spence (0-1) went the distance for the Tigers, taking the loss.
  • Hunter Mars had two hits for the Bucs, while Gallagher and Duncan each scored twice.

ON THE HORIZON:

The tournament continues for the Bucs on Saturday against the host Spring Hill Badgers and the Tritons of Missouri-St. Louis.
