MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Barry baseball defeated Tampa 9-8 in a SSC conference matchup Friday night to improve to 7-6 on the season.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP

SUMMARY:

• T1: Laz Rivera grabbed the first run of the game when he singled up the middle of the field to score Danny Lee. Adrian Chacon then doubled to left field, knocking in L. Rivera to take the 2-0 lead.
  B1: Barry also got on the board as Khalil Denson singled to first base, scoring Ryan Baldwin from third, making it 2-1.
  T4: Richie Rivera extended the lead for the Spartans with a three-run homer, making it 5-1 Tampa.
  T5: L. Rivera singled up the middle for the second time on the day to score Kevin Santa, to earn his second RBI.
  B5: Barry rallied in the fifth to close the Spartan's lead to just one run in the fifth. Denson had another RBI. Michael Escarra also had a single which led to a number of errors from the Tampa defense, which helped Barry score three runs, to make it 6-5.
  B6: The Bucs took the 7-6 lead in the sixth. Juan Sebastian Dayoub scored on a pass ball, and Julian Abreu also scored as a result of a balk by the Tampa pitcher.
  B8: Alffredi Ramos extended the lead for the Bucs with a double to left-center field, scoring Baldwin and Abreu, to make it 9-7.
  T9: Tampa fell short in their comeback, but they got one run back, making it 9-8 when J.D. Osborne grounded out to score Santa from third.

NOTEWORTHY:

• Armando Gonzalez (2-1) earned his second win on the season. He allowed two hits, and had two strikeouts.
• Jordan Leasure (1-1) grabbed his first loss on the season for the Spartans, giving up four runs and two hits.
• Daniel Broeseker earned his first save of the season for the Bucs, striking out two to hold off the Spartans.

ON THE HORIZON:

The Buccaneers continue the series against Tampa Saturday in double-header fashion. The first game is at 1 pm, and the second is at 5 pm.
