Baseball's Rally Comes Up Short In Game Three Of The Weekend

Both teams knocked in double digits

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Buccaneer baseball fell short Sunday afternoon to Pfeiffer, 14-11 in the final game of the series.

SUMMARY:

  • T1: The Falcons were the first on the board with four runs scored in the first. Tanner Mathis knocked in a two-run homer to left center.
  • B1: Barry third baseman, Justin Lamazares, answered with a home run of his own to make it 4-1.
  • B2: The Bucs knotted the match 4-4 with three runs in the second. Claudio Rubiera tagged up to score from a sacrifice fly from Juan Sebastian Dayoub to center field. Julian Abreu and Lamazares both singled to knock in two more runners on base.
  • T3: The Falcons regained the lead with two infield singles to drive in runs to make it 6-4 Pfeiffer.
  • B3: The Bucs battled back to take the lead back with three more runs. Rubiera singled to bring in Ryan Baldwin from third. Alffredi Ramos tagged up from third to score off of a sacrifice fly to right field from Richie Alfonso. Finally, Dayoub grounded out to the pitcher, allowing Khalil Denson to score from third.
  • T4: Pfeiffer third baseman Zach Scudder had a three run shot over the left-center fence to take the two-run lead. 
  • T5: Scudder came back to hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score John Elwood from third, to make it 10-7.
  • T6: The Falcons tallied another three runs in the sixth. Derek Perry and Kirby Lambert both homered.
  • B6: Ramos trimmed the Falcons's lead with a single through the right side to score Lamazares.
  • B7: Abreu cracked the second Barry home run on the day to cut the opponent's lead to four runs.
  • T9: Scudder singled through the right side to score Elwood, to grab the final run for the Falcons on the day.
  • B9: Lamazarez brought the Bucs within three with a double down the right field line, scoring Abreu and Dayoub.

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Cameron Reid (1-0) grabbed the win for the Falcons, giving up four hits and one run. Xavier Rodriguez picked up his first save of the season.
  • Luis Deville (0-1) took the loss for the Bucs, giving up eight runs and six hits.
  • Lamazares went 4-6 on the day, including a home run, and four RBI.
  • Abreu went 2-5, having two RBI and three runs.
  • Baldwin, batting 3-6, and Denson, batting 2-5, both combined for two runs and two stolen bases on the day.
  • Rubiera swung for a season high 3-4 on the day, with one run and one RBI.

ON THE HORIZON:

Barry continues play Tuesday Feb. 14 at 6 pm, against St. Thomas University in Miami Gardens.
