Women's Basketball Spears Spartans For Huge SSC Road Win

Palmer's double-double leads the way

TAMPA -- The Bucs led almost wire to wire to improve to 3-1 in the Sunshine State Conference with a 66-56 victory over the Tampa Spartans on Saturday in the Martinez Center in women's basketball action.

SUMMARY:

  • 1Q - The Bucs used an 11-0 run to start the game to build a 15-10 lead after the first period. The Bucs out-scored the Spartans 10-4 in the paint, led by six points from Ida Andersson and four from Kiara Palmer. | Barry 15, Tampa 10.
  • 2Q - The Spartans slowly chipped away at the lead, tying the game at 27-27 on a free throw by Karma Jeremie at the break. | Barry 27, Tampa 27
  • 3Q - The Spartans scored the first bucket of the second half, but Barry rolled off a 17-3 run over the next 5:20 to go up 46-32. Palmer had seven points in the run. | Barry 48, Tampa 40
  • 4Q - The Spartans cut the lead to three points on several occasions, but the Bucs used a couple of three-pointers by Andersson to push the lead out to eight points with 1:24 left in the game. Barry connected on 6-of-6 from the free throw line in the final minute to hold on to the lead. | Barry 66, Tampa 56

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Palmer had her fourth double-double with 23 points and 13 rebounds. 
  • Andersson had 14 points and hit two crucial three-pointers in the fourth quarter.
  • Jeremie led Tampa with 18 points. Rachel Warden added 10 points.
  • The win was only the Bucs second in Tampa since 2005.

ON THE HORIZON:

The Bucs start a three-game home stand on Wednesday, Dec. 13 against the St. Thomas Bobcats. Tip is slated for 2:00 pm.
