Bucs roll to sixth straight win

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers rolled to their sixth straight win, 75-64, over the St. Thomas Bobcats on Wednesday afternoon in the Health & Sports Center in women's basketball action.

SUMMARY:

  • 1Q - The games was tight to start out and tied 13-13 with 1:43 left in the period. But a three-point play by Kiara Palmer and a buzzer beater by Lexy Schoonover gave the Bucs the lead at the first break. | Barry 18, St. Thomas 13
  • 2Q - The Bucs used a 7-2 run to open the second quarter to take a 10-point lead on Harriet Swindells three-pointer. The Bobcats cut the lead to five on several occasions, but Barry finished on a 10-4 run to go up 42-31 on a layup by Stephane Granada with six seconds left. | Barry 42, St. Thomas 31
  • 3Q - The Bucs pushed the lead out to 17 points, 56-39 with 2:28 left in the third period on a fast break bucket from Palmer. The Bobcats closed to 60-47 at the break on a buzzer beater by Katie Reinas. | Barry 60, St. Thomas 47
  • 4Q - The Bucs once again owned the first part of the period. Barbara Cousiño scored five points as the Bucs took their biggest lead, 70-51, with 5:46 left. Reinas shot the Bobcats back, scoring 13 points in the final five minutes as St. Thomas got it back to 11 points, but no closer. | Barry 75, St. Thomas 64

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Palmer had her third-straight double-double, 19 points and 15 rebounds, to pace the Bucs.
  • Swindells hit five three-pointers for the third time this season and finished with 15 points.
  • Cousiño added 14 points.
  • Reinas led everyone with 25 points, 13 in the fourth quarter. Samara Auguste chipped in 13.

The Bucs host the Benedict College Tigers on Saturday at 3:00 pm.
