Women's Basketball Falls To Tritons In SSC Opener

Bucs drop two-point game to defending champs

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers dropped their Sunshine State Conference women's basketball opener 69-67 to the Eckerd Tritons on Saturday at the McArthur Center.

SUMMARY:

  • 1Q - The Bucs jumped all over the Tritons in the first, hitting 5-of-9 from three-point range, while the Tritons went 0-for-5. Barry led 24-22 as Kiara Palmer scored seven and Harriet Swindells hit a pair treys for six points | Barry 24, Eckerd 22
  • 2Q - In the second period, the Tritons regained the lead. But a Stephane Granda three-pointer with 3:20 put the Bucs on top 37-35. Eckerd scored the final four points in the period to go into the break up 41-39. | Eckerd 41, Barry 39
  • 3Q - The teams match 14-point efforts in the third period. But the Tritons pushed out to a seven-point lead on a layup by Armi Antilla with 1:50 left. Swindells led a 6-0 run by the Bucs to trim the lead to one before Eckerd hit a free throw to even the period. | Eckerd 55, Barry 53
  • 4Q - The fourth quarter was another 14-14 affair, but the Bucs had chances to win. Elin Ekdahl hit a layup with 1:58 left to give the Bucs a 67-65 lead. But the Barry turned the ball over on their their next three possessions and Kacie Juday went 4-for-4 from the free throw line to give Eckerd the 69-67 win. | Eckerd 69, Barry 67

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Swindells had her best game as a Buc, hitting 5-of-7 from three-point range for a career-high 17 points.
  • Kiara Palmer had 15 points and aa team high seven rebounds.
  • Anttila led Eckerd with 17, while Juday scored 15.

ON THE HORIZON:

The Bucs host the Cesar Odio Thanksgiving Classic next week, taking on Southwest Baptist and Minnesota-Crookston.
