Sanchez Lifts Women's Soccer Past Mocs 2-1

Ziegner improves goalie record to 8-2-2

AUBURNDALE, Fla. -- The Barry University Buccaneers defeated the Mocs of Florida Southern Wednesday night, 2-1, at Lake Myrtle Sports Park. The team improved to 6-1-2 in Sunshine State Conference women's soccer action.

SUMMARY:1st Half

  • 19:59 - Barry's Carissa Sanchez got the Bucs off to a hot start in the 20th minute, scoring her second goal of the season off of an assist from Christy Grimshaw.
  • 22:48 - Sanchez struck again just minutes later in the 23rd minute, to increase Barry's lead to two goals. Sanchez received a pass from Yanni Asson, and rocketed a shot from the right side to find the far post and into the back of the net.

2nd Half

  • 55:38 - The Mocs got a little help from the Buccaneers when Barry conceded an own-goal in the 56th minute. A ball was sent into the box from a Florida Southern free-kick, and was accidentally headed in the Buccaneer net by the Barry defense.


NOTEWORTHY:

  • Melanie Ziegner picked up the victory to improve her record to 8-2-2 on the season. The junior keeper allowed one goal and made one save.
  • Florida Southern's Helena Norrstrom took the loss for the Mocs, giving up two goals and making seven saves.
  • The Bucs broke the Mocs' two-game win-streak.

ON THE HORIZON:

Barry will stay at home to host Eckerd in the final match of the regular season, on Bucaneer Field Saturday at 6 p.m. This will also be senior night, where we will recognize the three seniors who will playing in their final regular season match as a Buccaneer.
