Volleyball Falls to Lynn

Barry hosts pair of home matches this weekend

BOCA RATON, Fla. -- Barry's volleyball team lost to Lynn, 25-19, 25-22, 25-19, Tuesday night.

The Buccaneers split the season series with the Fighting Knights after hitting .080. Now the Bucs will prepare for a pair of home matches Friday and Saturday.
 

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

SUMMARY:

  • The Buccaneers struggled in the first set, hitting .029 with seven kills and six errors. Conversely, the Fighting Knights hit .364 with 18 kills and six kills. Lynn never trailed in the opening set.
  • Barry led 10-8 in the second set following a block by Stassy Samokhvalova and Kristina Filimonova, but Lynn used a 5-0 run to take control. Filimonova's ace moved the Bucs within three, 18-15. Kishara Gordon's kill and a Lynn error pulled the Bucs within 21-19. The Fighting Knights extended their lead to five, but a kill by Genesis Castillo and blocks by Filimonova and Johanna Voss and Castillo and Filimonova made it 23-21. But Lynn secured the next two points to take a two-set lead.
  • The Bucs tied it at 12 on a kill by Voss in the third set. Gordon had a kill to put Barry ahead, 15-14. Samokhvalova's kill tied it at 18 before the Fighting Knights used a 5-1 lead to take control to wrap it up.

NOTEWORTHY:
  • Juliana Tirabassi recorded her 300th assist of the season in the first set. She finished with 14 assists.
  • Barry was held below .150 hitting for only the second time this season. 
  • The Bucs outblocked the Fighting Knights, 9-6.

ON THE HORIZON:

Barry will host Embry-Riddle 7 p.m. Friday at the HSC.
