HOOVER, Ala. -- Barry University's volleyball team will play three matches this weekend in the South Region Crossover.
The Buccaneers (6-4) meet Valdosta State (9-7) at 1:15 p.m. ET Friday. Barry then takes on Shorter (10-6) at 8 p.m. in The Finley Center. The Bucs will conclude the two-day challenge with a match against North Alabama (16-4) at 1:15 p.m. Saturday.
Barry is coming off its second five-set win of the season Tuesday. Both marathon wins have come in the past three matches.
Kristina Filimonova had a career-best 20 kills, while
Jaeda Allen had 15. Both have eclipsed 100 kills this season.
Maegan Cuesta has had double-digit assists in four straight matches. The Buccaneers are 2-0 in neutral site matches this season.
Valdosta State beat Union in a five-set match of its own on Saturday. Tristyn Sells leads VSU with 154 kills. Chloe Chubilleau has 126, and Lindsey Robinson 104 for the Blazers, who are hitting .177 as a team. Sara Dandridge is averaging 8.71 assists per set, while Robinson and Kayla Widera lead the Blazers with 43 and 42 blocks, respectively. Valdosta State is 4-1 in neutral site matches.
Shorter beat Lee in four sets Saturday. Tiffany Estep has 153 kills, Madeline Munroe 137, Kelsi Jones 104, and Danielle Melton 100. Cheyenne McLemore has 256 digs. The Hawks are hitting .201 as a team. Shorter is 4-2 on neutral courts.
North Alabama, which is hitting .244, had a five-match win streak snapped Tuesday in a five-set loss at West Florida. Lexie Bradley leads the Lions with 297 kills. Jessica Austin has 268, and Christina Ellwanger 121. UNA is 5-2 in neutral site matches.Â
The Buccaneers will return home Oct. 27-28 to meet Embry-Riddle and Florida Tech.
