Softball Splits Exhibition Doubleheader With Bobcats

Bucs pound out 9-1 win in game one

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers split an exhibition doubleheader with the St. Thomas Bobcats on Friday night at Bobcat Field. Barry pounded out a 9-1 win in game one, but St. Thomas rallied for a 5-4 walk-off win in the nightcap. The games counted on the Bobcats' record.

SUMMARY:

GAME ONE

  • T2nd - Barry jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning of game one. Cheyanne Head scored on a throwing error and Sam Busekrus squeezed in Kristina Osorio. | Barry 2, St. Thomas 0
  • B4th - The Bobcats cut the lead in half in the fourth. Alliyah Sands doubled and scored on a single by Jessica Castiglione. | Barry 2, St. Thomas 1
  • T6th - Barry exploded for six runs in the sixth, sending 11 batters to the plate. Jasmine Harris had a two-run double, while Alayna Gallagher knocked in two with a triple. | Barry 8, St. Thomas 1
  • T7th -  Head singled, stole second and scored on a sacrifice fly by Harris in the seventh to cap the scoring. | Barry 9, St. Thomas 1

  • B7th - Sands belted a one-out solo homer to center field to lift the Bobcats. St. Thomas 5, Barry 4

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Anieliese Palmeiro picked up the win for the Bucs in game one. In five innings, she allowed just three hits and a walk while striking out nine. Christie Falcon tossed two scoreless innings in relief. Castiglione took the loss.
  • Geneva Santos served up the homer to Sands to take the loss in the nightcap. She worked 2.1 innings, allowing two hits, four walks and striking out one. Emily Santos (her cousin) earned the win for the Bobcats, allowing just one earned run in the complete game, allowing eight hits and one walk 

ON THE HORIZON:

The Bucs open the regular season on Friday, Feb. 3 at the Gulf Coast Invitational in Gulf Shores, Ala., taking on defending national champions, North Alabama, and Tuskegee.
