ST. LEO, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers fell 2-1 in double overtime to the Saint Leo Lions in Sunshine State Conference women's soccer action at University Field on Saturday night.
The Bucs (3-2-1, 1-2-0 SSC) got on the board first in the 18th minute. Jade Adams sent the ball up out of the back to Carissa Sanchez on the right wing. Sanchez carried the ball down near the baseline and passed back to Molly Sharpe who rifled a shot past Julia Ortiz in the Lions' goal.
The lead held up until the 79th minute when Arielle Kabangu scored to knot the game at 1-1. She also scored the game-winner in the second overtime period.
The Lions (6-1-0, 4-0-0 SSC) took a commanding lead in the conference with the win. The held a 24-11 edge in shots, including 11-4 on goal. Ortiz made just three saves to post the win. Barry's Paula Forero had nine saves to keep the Bucs in the game, but takes her second loss of the season.
The Bucs travel up to Valdosta, Ga., to face the West Alabama Tigers on Tuesday, Sept. 27 at noon.
