Carissa Sanchez leads the Bucs with a pair of assists

VALDOSTA, Ga.—The Barry  Buccaneers doubled up the West Alabama Tigers 5-2 in a neutral site game at Valdosta State's VSU Soccer Complex on Tuesday.

The Bucs (4-2-1) struck early as Amanda Traynor got the first goal on a rebound from her own shot in the 16th minute.

Barry added a pair of goals late in the first half. Linnea Kogsta scored off a beautiful corner from Carissa Sanchez in the 39th minute, volleying the ball out of the air.

A pair of substitutes combined for the third goal. Hannah Durocher launched a shot at Tiger keeper Issy Foster that was saved but bounced right back to Durocher who skipped a pass to Ingrid Lian for her first career goal.

The second half was much more eventful as both teams tallied twice.

The Tigers (5-3-0) trimmed the lead to 3-1 in the 71st minute as Natalie Mooney fed Marie Dreezen for a shot from eight yards out on the left side. Barely a minute later, the lead was cut to 3-2 as the Bucs scored an own goal.

But Barry responded to the challenge, scoring twice more to ensure the victory. Katie Turner got her first goal of the season in the 73rd minute off a corner by Sanchez. Sanchez delivered another perfect pass that Turner was able to get her head on.

Sofia de la Puente tacked on the final goal, hitting a long chip from 40 yards out over Foster's head.

The Bucs held a 22-8 edge in shots, including 15-6 on goal. Foster made 10 saves for the Tigers, while Paula Forero had four saves for the Bucs.

Barry heads home to host the Florida Southern Moccasins on Saturday, Oct. 1 at Buccaneer Field.
