MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers dispatched arch-rival Lynn 2-0 in Sunshine State Conference women's soccer action from Buccaneer Field on Wednesday night.
The Bucs (3-1-1, 1-1-0 SSC) scored twice in the first half and held on to post their third clean sheet of the season.
Sarah Wignall got the Bucs on the board in the 16th minute. Amanda Traynor drove the ball down the left side into the box. Her cross deflected off a Knights defender to Wignall who finished from the right side.
Carissa Sanchez made it 2-0 in the 44th minute. She worked a give-and-go with Ingrid Lian and Sanchez finished over Lynn keeper Alexa Downie for a 2-0 half-time lead.
Neither team could muster any offense in the second half, though both teams had chances. Early on in the period, the Bucs hit the frame twice in 11 seconds. Molly Sharpe put one off the left post at 50:03 and Megan Stow hit the crossbar just 0:11 seconds later.
Lynn's best chance came in the 29th minute. Caroline Duerr caught a square ball by Breia Pierce and split the defenders. She was one-on-one with Barry keeper Paula Forero, but the Buccaneer net-minder rose to the challenge to preserve the shutout.
Barry out-shot the Knights (2-5-0, 0-3-0 SSC) 19-5, including 8-4 on goal. Forero had four saves to post her third shutout of the season, while Downie had six saves in taking the loss.
The Bucs travel to St. Leo, Fla., on Saturday to face off with the Saint Leo Lions at University Field at 7:00 pm.
